Description: Geologic fault traces exposed at the ground surface. Digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps (original maps published by Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980).
Description: Stuctural contours of varying datum digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps. Structural contours were constructed by geologic map authors when the original geologic maps were published during the Kentucky geologic mapping program (Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980). Contoured formations were determined by the quadrangle map author, so contour datum may vary across quadrangle boundaries. Therefore contours are not based on the most recent subsurface data and should only be used as a general guideline for the underlying geologic structure.
Contours are in feet above sea level, and may vary in contour interval across quadrangle boundaries. Please note that some contours are projected above the land surface.
Description: Geologic contacts between rock units. Contacts are symbolized by contact style. Digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps (original maps published by Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980).
Description: Traces of coal beds which were digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps (original maps published by Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980). Please note that this map does not guarantee the current location of these coal beds.
Description: This layer contains polygons which represent the geologic formations from the 1:500,000-scale 1988 Geologic Map of Kentucky, which was compiled by Martin C. Noger (KGS) from the 1981 Geologic Map of Kentucky (Scale 1:250,000) by McDowell and others (USGS). Polygons are styled by formation/unit name.

Description: This layer contains polygons representing the 1:24,000-scale geologic formations, styled by karst potential. Karst potential was determined by KGS staff for each formation by a weighted matrix of lithologic characteristics detrmined for each unit: grain size, bedding thickness, %CaCO3, and % insoluble rock and minerals. The last (% insoluble rock and minerals) being weighted the most. Please note, this is unpublished and still a work in-progress. Polygons digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps (original maps published by Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980).

Digitized from the 1:24,000 Geologic Map Series maps (original maps published by Kentucky Geological Survey - U.S. Geological Survey from 1960 to 1980).
