Medical Center Annex Number 5

1096 VA Drive

Who's Here:

Outreach Center for Science and Health Opportunities

Accessible Entries:

There is one manual accessible entrance located next to the main entrance on the northeast side of the building facing the Kelly Building. The door is not automatic, but has a ramp leading to it and has a loop handle so that it can be easily grasped. Once opened there is a threshold.

There are two handicap accessible spaces next to the entrance of the building in the adjacent E lot. Across VA Drive there are 4 additional car accessible spaces behind the Dimock Animal Pathology Building. Along VA drive, parallel to University Drive, there are 12 spaces designated for handicap accessibility. These spaces are for parallel parking and are not accessible for vans because occupants would have to exit on the street side of the vehicle.

Exterior Access Route:

To reach the main entrance from University Dr., follow the sidewalk along the south side of the building around the building to the adjacent parking lot. The sidewalk on University Drive coming from either direction has a lot of uneven pavement, especially at the corner of Dorm Complex Dr. and University Dr. next to the VA Medical Entrance.

If coming from other medical buildings on the opposite side of VA Drive, follow the sidewalk toward the VA Hospital and cross the street adjacent to the back entrance of the UK Medical Center.

To reach the main entrance by vehicle turn off University Dr. onto Hospital Dr. across from the Seaton Center, then turn right on VA Drive. Proceed north on VA Drive and park along that road or in the E lot adjacent to the building.

Interior Access Route:

When you enter the building from the main accessible entrance there is an open doorway to the right. This leads to the main office. The building is older, so many of the doorways are narrow, but the rooms on the main floor are accessible. The basement and attic are not accessible.

Rest Rooms:

To reach the handicap accessible restrooms from the main office, there is a hallway to the right that leads to a restroom. There is a handrail on the wall for those who use a wheelchair.

There are no elevators in the building, but most of the presentations take place on the main floor.
