What is this? This service allows you to search the entire KGS database for geologic descriptions. These include lithologic, economic, archeologic, paleontologic, geophysic, geotechnic, geomorphic (landforms), hydrologic, landuse, and structural descriptions from KGS publications, maps, and field notes. Many of these descriptions were derived from the more than 700 geologic quadrangle maps that cover the entire state of Kentucky. The lithologic descriptions are arranged by stratigraphic order (youngest to oldest), and links to view the extent of units on the KGS Geologic Map Service are available where possible.

To start, enter your favorite geologic term ("oolite" or "peridotite"?) into the Search Term field, and hit the SEARCH button below...

one tip: set off compound terms (e.g. "oolitic limestone") with quotes
another tip: you don't have to use a search term, you can leave this blank and use only the limits below

hold the "ctrl" key to make multiple selections
